Several schools (e.g., UofT) can accommodate overlap of outgoing and incoming med3s, and so for them, the beginning of clerkship is not delayed beyond July (according to the CFMS). Obviously, different cities are struggling to different extents with the pandemic. But is McGill advocating to promote harmonization of training time nationally given that, as it stands now, new McGill clerks will lose many months of training that other Canadian med students will still have?

From my understanding, CFMS has decided that each school will be doing their own things since each province/city has a very different situation. Unfortunately that’s the reality. Montreal’s situation is unique compared to other cities and provinces, so we unfortunately do have to suffer the most. Again, this is my understanding. I could be wrong as med-3’s we’ve asked this multiple times and that’s the answer we’ve gotten.

Do we have confirmation that electives are home school only for 2021?

Hi! Has the faculty discussed shortening the length of clerkship core rotations for the Class of 2022 (ex: remove 1 week from fam med, 1 week from surgery, etc.) in order to maximize our elective time given that we are already starting nearly 3 months behind at best? Thank you :)

Hi! I am concerned about applying for AFE for the fall semester. Many of us rely on that funding in order to pay for rent, food, etc. If we cannot register for clerkship, then we are not eligible for this funding anymore. How is the faculty planning to address this issue?

med4 here: any thoughts on abolishing the LMCC as a licencing requirement in Quebec? It is not a requirement in New Brunswick for example

Are considerations being made for students who are high-risk or take care of high-risk individuals for these “possible” in -person activities, like the anatomy lab?

Why is delaying our graduation date not considered? Especially if that means we would have the same complete and fair training and education as other years?

Compiled Med-3s Qs about the Gatineau option: 1) how will students be selected to go (will it be preference-based) 2) when will we find out if we go to Gatineau? if we start on June 1st it would mean we need to start quarantining this Sunday

If rotations for clerks will be shortened to 6 weeks instead of 8 (i.e., 75%), how will absences and leaves be handled? Students will still need some time off for medical appointments, sick leave, etc. Thanks!

Med-2: Other provinces that are less hard hit than us and have more resources will not be delaying their Med-3 clerkship start date. Why are we unable to double up on rotations by spreading out across hospitals? This will put us at a disadvantage for electives, especially if we are only allowed to do electives at our home school. It will put McGill students in a tough position trying to match anywhere outside of Montreal, especially in competitive specialties.

For Med-3’s that still haven’t done their med3 elective, are there still plans for us to do it between June and sept as previously mentioned in the UGME digest?

When we start fourth year in October, will we be following the same order of rotations currently assigned to us or will they reassigned?

Do students coming from a Leave of Absence and entering 4th year will need to start their electives in October as well or we can start in July(as sheduled) as long it respects the total weeks we are allowed to take.

@Leanne if we could add to Cyril’s question a specification about access to UdeM for electives as a “visiting” elective, Montreal is pretty special in the COVID context and both universities are in the same city so no need for quarantine?

For students who have registered to take the USMLE this summer (during what would have been the vacation time between TCP and clerkship), the need to reschedule the exam is becoming more and more evident. This task is becoming more challenging given the everchanging schedule and requirements (e.g. for DIM students who will have to make up sessions). How has the administration taken students writing the USMLE into consideration in their planning?

nobody has a summer why should those writing the USMLE be accommodated? nobody is required to do the USMLE
